Q: How can I find out if my insurance will pay for pathology services?
A: If you have questions regarding coverage, please call your insurance carrier directly to find out your specific benefits and what, if any, your out-of-pocket expenses will be. Feel free to request that your tissue specimen be read by Scottsdale Pathology Consultants.

Q: What if my insurance isn’t listed?
A: If your insurance company isn’t listed, please turn your card over to see if it is a member of any of the contracted insurances listed. If not, you can call your insurance and tell them that you would like your specimen to be read by one of our doctors. In many cases, your insurance company may still cover all or a portion of your bill.
Q: Will you bill my insurance?
A: SPC will bill all insurance companies with the information obtained from your physician’s office. Patients are responsible for the payment of any balance.
Q: Will I receive a bill from my doctor too?
A: You may receive a bill from your doctor for services performed at the office, surgery center, etc. You may receive a bill from SPC for the services that we provided such as completion of laboratory, interpretive and diagnostic services of your specimen. Q: What about Medicare?
A: SPC will bill Medicare and accepts assignment on all pathology testing. Since Medicare pays 80% of the allowable amount, the remaining 20% will be billed to your secondary insurance. If you do not have a secondary insurance, you will be billed for the unpaid balance.
Q: Why didn’t my insurance carrier pay the entire balance?
A: There may be a variety of reasons they didn’t pay. You may have a deductible or your plan may not cover pathology services. If that is the case, you will be billed for the balance. If you feel that your insurance should have paid or have any questions on why they didn’t pay, please call our billing department at 800 234-7944.
